NMC Sets Up Artificial Tanks for Shri Krishna Idol immersion in Nagpur
Nagpur, India: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has begun setting up artificial tanks across the city for the immersion of Shri Krishna idols. This initiative, which started one day before Janmashtami, aims to prevent idol immersion in natural water bodies, helping to preserve the environment.
Artificial tanks have been placed at all lakes within city premises and in every zone to ensure easy access for citizens. Dr. Abhijit Chaudhari, the Municipal Commissioner and Administrator, has urged residents to use these tanks for idol immersion and to place all offerings, or 'nirmalya,' in designated containers known as 'nirmalya kalash.'
Specific locations where these tanks have been installed include Sonegaon Lake, Gandhi Sagar Lake, Matru Sewa Sangh in Mahal, Manoj Hotel near Naik Talav, Hanuman Ghat near Naik Talav Garden Gate, Nagpure High School in Bharatwada, and near Gulmohar Nagar Hanuman Mandir.
To enforce this initiative, the NMC has banned the immersion of idols in natural water bodies and has set up barricades around all city lakes using tin sheets and bamboo. Additionally, over 400 artificial tanks will be installed citywide before the upcoming Ganesh festival, with 'Nirmalya Kalash' containers placed to maintain cleanliness during the festive season.
The state government has already prohibited the manufacturing, sale, and use of Plaster of Paris (POP) idols during festivals. NMC teams will monitor markets to ensure compliance with this ban, promoting the use of eco-friendly idols.
