Officers Under Scrutiny in Rs1.06 Crore Anganwadi Scam Investigation
Nagpur, India- Officers from the Women and Child Welfare Department are now under scrutiny as a committee investigates the Rs 1.06 crore Anganwadi scam, which has already resulted in the suspension of 11 Child Development Project Officers (CDPOs).
The scam involves the Anganwadi Upgradation Scheme, where the Women and Child Development Commissioner directed the completion of essential works such as doors, windows, repairs, solar projects, security walls, drinking water facilities, and baby-friendly toilets. A fund of Rs1.06 crore was allocated in two phases and transferred from the district to CDPO accounts at the Panchayat Samiti level.
CDPOs were responsible for calling for quotations, identifying suppliers, and providing materials to 49 anganwadis. However, ZP Vice President Kunda Raut alleged that bills were paid to suppliers before the materials reached the anganwadis, favoring certain suppliers. The investigation revealed that some contractors were favored, with suppliers submitting bills even before delivering the materials.
