Over 100 Students Hospitalized Due to Food Poisoning in Chandrapur ZP School
In a suspected case of food poisoning, 106 students from Zilla Parishad School in Pardi village, Saoli tehsil, were hospitalized on Friday. The students were admitted to various hospitals in Chandrapur and Gadchiroli after experiencing symptoms such as fever and vomiting.
Senior BJP leader and MLA Sudhir Mungantiwar directed the administration to ensure the best possible treatment for the affected students and ordered a thorough investigation into the incident.
The Zilla Parishad School in Pardi has a capacity of 133 students, and 126 were present on December 4 when the incident occurred. According to reports, the students were served a meal in the afternoon. Later that night, many began experiencing fever and vomiting. Initially, parents assumed it was due to a viral fever and did not raise alarms. However, when symptoms persisted the following day, students began vomiting again after arriving at school.
Civil Surgeon Dr. Mahadeo Chinchole, who visited the Rural Hospital in Saoli, provided details of the situation. "Some students were admitted to the Primary Health Centre (PHC) and Rural Hospital nearly 18 hours after consuming the meal," he said.
Currently, 62 students are being treated at the sub-district hospital in Mul tehsil, 20 at the Gadchiroli district hospital, 17 in Saoli, and the rest at Chandrapur Government Medical College and Hospital. Dr. Chinchole confirmed that the students are in stable condition and remain under observation.
A team of doctors and officials from the Food and Drugs Administration has collected food samples for laboratory testing. An investigation committee comprising the Additional CEO, Education Officer, Additional District Health Officer of Zilla Parishad, and the Block Development Officer has also been appointed to probe the incident.
Authorities have assured swift action once the test results and investigation findings are available.
