Over 450 Boxers Set to Compete in State Championships in Nagpur

Nagpur is gearing up to host an electrifying spectacle as the Amateur Boxing Association of Nagpur District announces the much-awaited State sub-junior boys and girls and junior girls championship. Following the tremendous success of the sub-junior girls' national championship five years ago, boxing enthusiasts in the region are eagerly anticipating this grand event.

Under the esteemed patronage of the Maharashtra Boxing Association, the championship is all set to kick off at RTMNU's Subhedar Hall in Ravi Nagar on July 22. The competition will be fiercely contested in three categories, namely Sub-junior girls, sub-junior boys, and junior girls.

At a recent press conference, Dr Rakesh Tiwari, Secretary of the Maharashtra Boxing Association, revealed some exciting details about the championship. The meet is scheduled to commence with an inaugural ceremony at 11 am on July 22, graced by the presence of Dr Subhash Chaudhari, Vice Chancellor of Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University. Other dignitaries who will be part of the opening ceremony include the President of Nagpur Boxing Association and former Mayor of Nagpur, Dayashankar Tiwari, as well as Vice President of Maharashtra Boxing Association, Vijay Ingole, Eknath Chavan, Dr Jaiprakash Duble, Sajjad Hussain, Dr B Premchand, Organising Secretary Milind Sable, and various others.

The championship has already garnered immense interest, with boxers from several districts within Maharashtra confirming their participation. Competitors from Nagpur, Bhandara, Gadchiroli, Chandrapur, Akola, Amravati, Mumbai, Thane, and Pune will be locking horns in this thrilling boxing spectacle. Each district will be represented by 33 talented girls and 33 equally promising boys. The five-day event promises to deliver exhilarating bouts among sub-junior boys, sub-junior girls, and junior girls.

Expressing his enthusiasm for the tournament, Dr Rakesh Tiwari proudly stated, "For the first time in the history of the State championship, we have received record entries for the event." He further revealed that around 456 boxers from across Maharashtra will take part in the championship, making it a truly exceptional gathering of boxing talent.

In terms of eligibility, the School Age (sub-junior) category requires participants to be under 15 years of age, both for boys and girls. As for the junior category, the age limit is set at under 17. On the first day of the championship, the audience can look forward to witnessing a total of 43 bouts, with the entire event featuring an impressive 414 bouts.

Ganesh Purohit, representing the Amateur Boxing Association of Nagpur District, disclosed that the Nagpur squad would be comprised of 10 girls and 10 boys in the sub-junior category, along with nine girls in the junior section. Purohit also shared exciting news about the camp cum referees examination for Level-2 and Level-3, which will be conducted by MBA during the competition. A total of 28 referees have already registered to officiate in this prestigious event.

As the championship progresses, the Maharashtra team for the upcoming nationals, to be held in Bellary next month, will be carefully selected. This adds an extra layer of anticipation and excitement to the already charged atmosphere.

Countless individuals, including Milan Vidya of Maharashtra Boxing Association, Organising Secretary Milind Sable, Rajan Jothadi, Dinesh Chapne, Arun Bute, Sudesh Shende, Pradeep Singh, Gaurishankar Deshmukh, Neeraj Kumar Kothi, Kavinder Manishkar, Yogesh Mishra, Dinesh Singh Meena, and Vilas Ghughe, are working tirelessly to ensure the resounding success of this championship.
