Pahalgam Terror Attack: District Confirms Safety of 220 Nagpur Visitor

Nagpur, India: In the aftermath of the devastating terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, the Nagpur district administration has confirmed that all 220 tourists from the city currently in the region are safe. This reassurance comes amid national mourning over the assault that claimed at least 28 lives and injured more than 20 others.

Among the Nagpur tourists, the Rupchandnani family had a narrow escape. They were in the vicinity when gunfire erupted and, in their attempt to flee, Simran Rupchandnani sustained minor injuries after slipping. All three family members are reported to be safe.

To assist concerned families, the Nagpur District Collector’s Office has established a 24x7 help desk and control room. Citizens can contact the helpline numbers 0712-2562668 and 8860018817 for updates and assistance.

The Pahalgam attack, which occurred on 22 April in the Baisaran Valley, was carried out by militants from The Resistance Front, an offshoot of Lashkar-e-Taiba. The assailants targeted tourists, reportedly asking for names and religions before opening fire. The attack has been described as the deadliest on civilians in the region since the revocation of Jammu and Kashmir's special status in 2019.

In response to the incident, the Civil Aviation Ministry has arranged additional flights from Kashmir to Delhi and Mumbai to facilitate the safe return of tourists. The ministry is also coordinating with airlines to ensure airfares remain stable amid the crisis.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the attack, stating, "Those behind this heinous act will be brought to justice...they will not be spared!" He emphasised the government's unshakeable resolve to fight terrorism.

The Nagpur district administration continues to monitor the situation closely and remains in touch with local authorities in Kashmir to ensure the safety of its residents.
