Passenger’s Alertness Saves the Day at Chhatrapati Square Metro Station

Nagpur, India: A smart and alert commuter, along with quick-acting metro officials at Chhatrapati Square Metro Station, helped stop a possible digital fraud on Thursday. The incident highlights how public awareness can play a big role in preventing cybercrime.
The situation unfolded when a man, who had travelled from Cotton Market Square to Chhatrapati Square, approached a fellow passenger on the platform. He claimed he had lost his metro ticket and had no money. He asked to use the commuter’s phone to call a friend and request ₹30.
Even though the commuter offered him the money directly, the man refused and insisted on making a call. When he dialled the number, the commuter saw a “spam call” alert on his screen. Sensing something was wrong, he immediately ended the call and reported the matter to the station controller.
Metro officials responded swiftly and found ₹250 in the possession of the man, who had earlier said he had no money. This raised more doubts about his real intentions.
The station staff contacted Rana Pratap Nagar Police Station. Police arrived at the spot quickly and took both individuals for further questioning.
Nagpur Metro officials praised the commuter for acting quickly and responsibly. They also urged the public to stay alert and avoid handing over personal phones or money to strangers.
Cybercrime cases are on the rise, and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) continues to advise citizens to be cautious and protect personal and financial information. This incident is a strong reminder for everyone to stay aware and act wisely in suspicious situations.
