Pench Tiger Reserve conducts successful machan census under Nisarg Anubhav Programme

The Pench Tiger Reserve in Maharashtra recently organized a machan census as part of the Nisarg Anubhav Programme. The census was a huge success, attracting nature enthusiasts who were eager to witness various animals in their natural habitats, including tigers. The deputy director of the reserve has praised the initiative, stating that it provides an excellent opportunity for people to connect with nature and appreciate the beauty of the reserve.

The machan census at Pench Tiger Reserve also offered a platform for wildlife conservation. The census encouraged people to appreciate and protect the natural world, and it provided a unique opportunity for people to witness various animals in their natural habitats. With 34 machans offered in the buffer ranges of Paoni uc and Nagalwadi, the programme received more than 150 applications, including some from other states.

Selected participants sighted a variety of animals during the Machan census, including Indian gaur, wild dog, spotted deer, sambhar, blue bull mongoose, wild cat, porcupine, and many others. In total, the Machans in the buffer range provided sightings of 224 animals. Meanwhile, field staff conducted the census in the core area of the tiger reserve using 70 machans, managing to spot over 1,000 animals. The machan census at Pench Tiger Reserve also attracted female participants, with seven selected among the 34 chosen for the programme. The selection process was on a first-come, first-serve basis, and the response was overwhelming, with more than 150 applications received.

The machan census at Pench Tiger Reserve is expected to boost tourism in the region, with nature enthusiasts flocking to witness the animals in their natural habitats.
