Police Charge Two Men in Connection with Ragpicker's Murder Case
Nagpur, India- The police have arrested two young men, Ashish alias Lalla Rajan Tiwari and Rinku Ujagarsingh Rajput, for their involvement in the death of Manoj Bengali Banjare, a ragpicker. Manoj was found dead with head injuries on a platform in front of Agrawal Kirana Stores' warehouse at Prajapati Chowk on Wednesday morning. Initially, the police thought it was a murder.
The investigation showed that Ashish Tiwari (26) and Rinku Rajput (26), both from Prajapati Nagar, were stealing iron objects to sell to scrap dealers. They used the money to buy alcohol.
Early Wednesday morning, they climbed an under-construction Metro bridge to steal iron objects. They threw sharp iron blocks off the bridge, and one of these hit Manoj, who was sleeping below, causing fatal head injuries. He died within minutes.
Senior Inspector Harish Borade confirmed that it was not a murder. After arresting Ashish and Rinku, the police questioned them and talked to eyewitnesses. They have now charged the two with culpable homicide, which means causing someone's death without intending to kill them.
