Police Commissioner Takes Strong Action Against Noisy Pubs and Cafes
In response to growing complaints from residents about noisy behavior, traffic violations, and environmental disruptions, the Commissioner of Police, Dr. Ravinder Kumar Singal, has rolled out a strict plan targeting pub, lounge, and cafe operators in the city. The move follows repeated instances of operators flouting rules, causing disturbances, and neglecting essential security measures.
Dr. Singal, aiming to address the mounting concerns, has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Traffic to take action. Numerous complaints have flooded in, particularly about late-night disturbances, with rooftop restaurants and lounges playing loud music into the early hours. Some establishments have also been causing traffic disruptions on major roads, according to police officials.
The Police Commissioner stressed the importance of adhering to stringent criteria for obtaining permissions for commercial establishments. He highlighted that the Traffic Department had issued negative reports on many applications, citing insufficient parking arrangements in pubs and lounges across Shankar Nagar, Dharampeth, and Wardha Road.
To investigate further, the CP instructed the DCP Traffic and issued notices to all establishments, warning of potential license cancellations if adequate arrangements were not made. During a media interaction, he emphasized a multi-departmental approach to address the issue, hinting at joint actions by the police and other relevant authorities.
Numerous complaints from local residents and senior citizens prompted the CP to order surprise checks by all police stations and the Crime Branch in pubs, lounges, and cafes. "Violators will face strict consequences, with proposals for license cancellations already in the works," warned the Police Commissioner.
In an effort to involve citizens in maintaining order, Dr. Singal urged people to report issues to police stations and higher authorities if necessary. Additionally, he advocated for the display of information boards in all establishments to raise public awareness against drunken driving.
As the city strives for a balance between entertainment venues and public well-being, the Police Commissioner's proactive measures aim to create a safer and more peaceful environment for residents.
