Police File Complaint Against Unknown Individuals For Cutting 562 Trees In Khamla
Nagpur, India: On January 30, Pratap Nagar police registered a case against unknown individuals for illegally cutting down over 550 trees, including fully grown Bismarck palm and Ashoka trees.
The case was filed under relevant sections for damaging public property and unauthorized tree cutting, based on a complaint from state Public Works Department (PWD) officials.
A total of 562 trees were illegally cut down 152 palm trees and 410 Ashoka trees causing an estimated financial loss of ₹56 lakh, as assessed by the PWD. This was confirmed by Senior PI Mahesh Sagde of Pratap Nagar police station, who stated that an offence had been registered in connection with the case.
Road CCTVs captured footage of the tree cutters, but their identities remain unknown. An investigation is underway, and authorities are working to track down those responsible, said PI Sagde.
On January 29, unknown individuals cut down over 550 trees from the divider on Inner Ring Road between Khamla Square and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Square. These trees were planted by the PWD about four years ago and were under its care.
