Police File Revised Petition Against JMFC’s Order in Ritika Maloo Case
Nagpur, India- The Tehsil Police filed a revision petition on Friday at the Sessions Court, challenging the First Class Judicial Magistrate’s (JMFC) Tuesday order, which deemed the arrest of Ritu alias Ritika Dinesh Maloo unconstitutional in the Ram Jhula hit-and-run case and ordered her immediate release.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Zone III Goraksh Bhamre informed the media about the petition filing. After nearly four months on the run, the police arrested Ritika Maloo on Monday and produced her in court on Tuesday, seeking custody. However, Judge A V Khedkar-Garad of the 7th JMFC (Court No 4), Nagpur, declared Ritu’s arrest unlawful and ordered her release.
The court argued that Ritu should have been arrested only after her bail was revoked by the court that originally granted it. This procedural oversight rendered her arrest illegal.
On the night of February 25, between 1:30 and 1:45 am, Ritu Maloo allegedly drove her Mercedes car in a rash and negligent manner under the influence of alcohol, colliding with an Activa scooter carrying two persons. Both riders, Mohd Hussain Gulam Mustafa and Mohd Ateef Mohd Zaid sustained fatal injuries—one died on the spot, and the other succumbed to injuries while receiving treatment. Earlier that night, she had allegedly consumed alcohol at two restaurants in CP Club.
