Police Raid Shop Near Kamal Chowk, Seize 128 kg of Poppy Straw Drugs
On Friday night, Pachpaoli police raided a shop near Kamal Chowk and seized over 128 kg of poppy worth Rs 10.24 lakh, commonly known as doda powder. Laxminarayan Makulal Jaiswal, 38, a shopkeeper, was taken into custody.
Poppy weeds, the stalk left after the opium is removed from the pod, are often smuggled drugs disguised as animal feed. According to a specific report, Pachpaoli police raided Jaiswal’s shop and found eight plastic bags containing poppy straw.
Jaiswal was arrested and charged under Sections 8(c), 15(c), 17 and 22 of the Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Act. The operation led by Senior PI Baburao Raut, API Praveen Somvanshi, PSI Pankaj Bhopale and PSI Majgaonkar resulted in a successful bust of drugs.
