Man Dies as Porch of Multi-Storey Building Collapses at Ganga Apartment, Nagpur
Nagpur, India: In a tragic incident early Thursday, a man lost his life when the porch of a multi-storey building at Ganga Apartment, Agyaram Devi Square, collapsed. The porch, which covered shops in the basement, gave way around dawn, killing a person who was sleeping near the shops.
The Fire Brigade received a distress call around 7:30 a.m. and immediately dispatched a team to the site. Using an excavator, they removed debris to retrieve the body, which was identified as Ajay Ashok Ingle, a 35-year-old resident of Chandli Kokda village in Wardha district.
Officials believe the porch had weakened over time and couldn’t withstand the pressure, leading to the collapse. To prevent further accidents, the remaining unstable portion of the porch was brought down safely.
Later the same day, firemen were called to respond to a fire in the basement of Anjuman Complex in the Sadar area. The fire, reported around 7:30 p.m., engulfed a shop. Firefighters from the Civil Lines station quickly arrived at the scene and successfully extinguished the flames.
Both incidents highlight the need for regular structural maintenance and fire safety measures in urban areas.
