Post Election Disputes Spark Tensions and Protests in Nagpur
Nagpur, India: After voting concluded on November 20, disputes continued to emerge in different areas of the city. Reports indicate that activists and representatives of the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction) arrived at Prashant Vidyalaya in Hiwari Nagar, Nagpur East, at 6:30 PM.
The activists insisted that the CCTVs in polling centers remain in place until the EVMs were properly sealed as part of the electoral process, which led to a tense situation. According to NCP(SP) candidate Duneshwar Pethe, the CCTVs were installed to oversee the election proceedings but were removed before the EVMs were sealed, causing confusion.
Later, stones were thrown at Pethe’s four wheeler, which was parked outside his house. Pethe claimed that BJP activists were responsible for damaging his vehicle.
Meanwhile, a large group of supporters of Independent candidate Ramesh Punekar from Nagpur Central gathered in Old Mangalwari after hearing about three alleged attacks by BJP activist Rajesh on Shubham.
The crowd assembled near Rajesh’s shops in significant numbers. According to Punekar, members of the community were angry and had gathered at a BJP activist’s house after his supporters received threats. However, Rajesh had already fled the scene. The group then went to the Lakadganj Police Station to demand action on the matter.
