President Droupadi Murmu commends Gondwana University authorities for offering opportunities to students in Gadchiroli, a backward district, during the Convocation address
Gadchiroli, Wednesday - In an inspiring Convocation address delivered at Gondwana University, President Droupadi Murmu extended her congratulations to the university authorities for providing valuable opportunities to students in the underdeveloped Gadchiroli district. She appealed to the students to seize these opportunities, emphasizing that it is their responsibility to transform the district from being one of the most backward regions to becoming a leading contributor to the nation's progress. President Murmu emphasized that the university holds the key to achieving this status.
The esteemed event was graced by the presence of several distinguished guests, including Maharashtra Governor and University Chancellor Ramesh Bais, Vice-Chancellor Dr Prashant Bokare, Pro-VC Dr Shriram Kawale, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and Maharashtra Ministers Chandrakant Patil, Sudhir Mumnagtiwar, Vijay Gavit, and former minister Hansraj Ahir.
President Murmu expressed her delight at the superior facilities for higher education and research provided by Gondwana University. She commended the extension programs designed to motivate tribal communities in remote areas to pursue higher education, acquire vocational skills, and serve the nation. Furthermore, she advised the students to cultivate a sense of responsibility towards society and the nation at large.
Highlighting the importance of preserving harmony with nature, President Murmu revealed that she had invited members of the tribal community to her official residence. She encouraged urban dwellers to learn from the tribals' way of life, emphasizing the need to coexist in consonance with nature. Ramesh Bais, in his address, stressed the significance of training local youth in processing forest produce, packaging, and marketing, enabling them to tap into national and global markets. Additionally, he suggested exploring opportunities for eco-tourism within the district.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari shared the significant infrastructure developments taking place in Gadchiroli, particularly in the road network. Under the BJP Government, the district has witnessed an impressive increase in road construction, expanding from 92 km to 529 km. Gadkari expressed his commitment to enhancing connectivity through further development of road, rail, and air transportation. Devendra Fadnavis assured attendees of the government's commitment to providing adequate funds for the district's development and the university's growth. He revealed plans for the establishment of an airport in the region.
