To mark the 75th anniversary of GMCH (Government Medical College and Hospital), the Amrut Mahotsav event is scheduled to be held on December 1, 2023, and will be inaugurated by the President of India, Droupadi Murmu. The events will continue from December 1 to December 23, 2023, according to Dr. Raj Gajbhiye, Dean of GMCH, who announced these details during a press conference.
Dr. Gajbhiye focused on the historical significance of GMCH, established in 1947 and inaugurated by India's first President, Dr. Rajendra Prasad. He also noted that the Super Specialty Hospital was inaugurated in 1995 by former President Dr. Shankarlal Sharma. Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will lead the reception committee and oversee the organization of the event.
The 23-day celebration will consider of various dignitaries, seminars, lectures, and cultural events. Among those present at the press conference were Dr. Sudhir Neral, Dr. Uday Naralawar, Dr. Devendra Mahore, Dr. Vinky Rughwani, Dr. Avinash Rode, Dr. Archana Deshpande, and Dr. Avinash Gawande.
Dr. Gajbhiye shares that GMCH has delivered 17 Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri awardees, 18 doctors who have attained IAS and IPS positions, and 7 individuals honored with the Dr. BC Roy Award. Additionally, two students have received the Ramon Magsaysay Award, eight have been elected as legislators and parliamentarians, and 55 have held esteemed positions in various branches of the Indian armed forces. The college has graduated a total of 15,000 students.
GMCH, as the premier institute of Central India, holds a special place in the region's healthcare and educational landscape. It was established in 1947 and inaugurated by India's first President, Dr. Rajendra Prasad.
Approval for 514 Crore Funding
An allocation of 514 crore has been approved for GMCH's development, including upgrades to wards and departments. This funding has been provided by the DPDC and the state government. Many projects are already underway, with administrative approval granted for others. Dr. Gajbhiye mentioned that efforts are ongoing to establish a convention center as part of the Amrut Mahotsav celebrations.
Invitation to Sachin Tendulkar
Dr. Gajbhiye announced that an invitation has been extended to the legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar for the Amrut Mahotsav event. However, confirmation from his side is pending. Preparations are in full swing to ensure that the celebration is memorable, including the construction of a dome on the adjacent grounds of the super speciality hospital for the program.
