Promoting poker wearing a police uniform got Nawazuddin into trouble

After a recent ad was released, actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui found himself at the center of criticism. A Hindu organization has called for legal action against the Bollywood star, accusing him of defaming the Maharashtra police.

In order to take action against Nawazuddin and Ankur Singh, the owners of Big Cash Poker, the Hindu Janjagruti Samiti has written to the director general of police in Maharashtra and the commissioner of police in Mumbai, according to the Free Press Journal.

The group claims that an online gaming platform advertising that portrays Nawazuddin as a police officer damages the reputation of the Maharashtra Police. The actor in the advertisement invites viewers to play poker.

The organization's social welfare initiative, Surajya Abhiyan, is now calling for Nawazuddin to be held accountable for "defaming the police." The commercial is "damaging and disrespectful to law enforcement," they emphasized in the statement.

Surajya Abhiyan's Maharashtra state coordinator, Abhishek Murukate, sent a letter to the Mumbai Police Commissioner and the state's DGP. They requested them to act against Ankur and Nawazuddin in the letter. The letter called for legal action under the Maharashtra Police Act of 1951 and the Maharashtra Civil Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules of 1979.
