89 Police Personnel Step Up in Rank to Strengthen Nagpur’s Law and Order

Nagpur, India:  In a proud and momentous occasion for the city’s law enforcement, 89 personnel from the Nagpur Police were officially promoted during a special ceremony held on 16 April at Police Bhavan, Civil Lines. Police Commissioner Ravinder Kumar Singal conferred the new ranks in the presence of the officers’ families, who added a warm and celebratory touch to the event.

The promotions included nine Head Constables elevated to the post of Assistant Police Sub-Inspector (ASI), and 80 Police Naiks promoted to Head Constables. Among those promoted, 25 were women, reflecting continued efforts to encourage gender representation within the force.

These promotions, announced earlier on 8 April, go beyond administrative formality — they recognise years of dedicated service, discipline, and loyalty to duty. Commissioner Singal, in his address, congratulated the officers and reminded them that promotion also brings increased responsibility.

He urged the newly promoted personnel to focus on swift resolution of pending cases, prompt action on public grievances, and proactive crime prevention. Stressing the importance of modern policing, he encouraged the use of digital tools, intelligence gathering, and strong investigative work — particularly in tackling organised crime and gang-related activity.

“Each complaint must be treated with seriousness and care. Officers must ensure thorough investigations, gather solid evidence, and present it effectively in court,” said Commissioner Singal.

He further emphasised the crucial role of the police in maintaining law and order, managing police stations, and addressing public issues — often while working within limited resources. The Commissioner underlined that investigation, administration, and enforcement are the three main pillars of policing, with field officers playing a key role in all.

The event was an emotional one for many, as family members watched their loved ones being honoured. Several expressed their pride and joy, calling the ceremony a moment they would never forget.

This round of promotions reflects not only individual achievement, but also the department’s confidence in its personnel to take on greater challenges. As they step into their new roles, the officers are expected to serve the city of Nagpur with renewed commitment and contribute actively to a safer and more secure community.
