Protests Planned in Nagpur as VHP, Bajrang Dal Demand Action on Aurangzeb’s Tomb

Security has been tightened in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (formerly Aurangabad) after the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal demanded the removal of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb’s tomb. The groups have warned that if the government does not act, the site could face the same fate as the Babri Masjid.
The controversy started when BJP MP Udayanraje Bhosale, a descendant of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, wrote to the government, urging them to dismantle the tomb. Following this, the VHP and Bajrang Dal announced statewide protests and threatened to take matters into their own hands through “kar seva” (volunteer action) to remove the structure.
Authorities have increased security at the tomb to prevent any disturbances. Meanwhile, Hindu groups have planned demonstrations across Maharashtra, including a major protest in Nagpur near the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj statue at Gandhi Gate.
This issue has sparked intense debates, with historical and political tensions coming to the forefront. Law enforcement agencies are on high alert to maintain peace and prevent any escalation of the situation.
