Ram Jhula Accident: Police File Petitions for Maloo's Arrest in Court
The Tehsil Police filed two revision petitions in the Sessions Court on Monday, aiming to secure the re-arrest of Ritu alias Ritika Maloo, the accused in the Ram Jhula accident. This move follows consultations with legal experts after their previous applications were rejected twice this month by the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC).
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Gorakh Bhamre confirmed to the media that the petitions cite precedents from High Courts and the Supreme Court to support their argument for Maloo's arrest.
Senior Police Inspector Sandip Buwa from Tehsil police station explained that the first petition challenges the JMFC's ruling that deemed Maloo's initial arrest "Unlawful," while the second petition seeks court permission to re-arrest her. The decision to file these petitions followed consultations with legal experts by senior police officials.
The incident involved Maloo allegedly driving her Mercedes car recklessly under the influence of alcohol, resulting in a collision with an Activa scooter carrying two individuals. The collision led to fatal injuries, with one victim dying on the spot and the other succumbing to injuries during treatment. The court has issued notices to the concerned parties and scheduled a hearing on July 18 to consider these developments.
