Increasing Number of Seized Vehicles in Police Stations Causing Space Issues

Nagpur, India: The shortage of space in city police stations has become a major issue, primarily due to the accumulation of seized vehicles with no owners. These vehicles, ranging from those involved in accidents to those linked to criminal activities, occupy valuable space, causing significant problems for law enforcement personnel.
The condition of several police stations in Nagpur has become like a junkyard, with vehicles involved in accidents, illegal liquor, smuggling, and stolen vehicles accumulating and gathering dust for years.
The increasing number of these vehicles is causing a severe shortage of space in police stations. Not only do these long-standing vehicles spoil the appearance of the stations, but they also attract mosquitoes, increasing the risk of diseases like malaria and dengue among police officers.
The police administration explains that the process of selling these vehicles is very lengthy. First, the vehicle owners are identified through the RTO. If the owners do not come forward to claim their vehicles, the sale is carried out with court approval. However, this entire process can take several years.
The police administration is currently working on finding a solution to this issue. If the process of selling these vehicles speeds up, it could free up space in the police stations and provide relief to the officers.
