Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden eliminated from US Open men's doubles

Rohan Bopanna and his Australian partner Matthew Ebden's loss in the third round of the US Open men's doubles event marked the end of India's challenge.

In 66 minutes on Sunday night, the 16th-seeded Argentine team of Maximo Gonzalez and Andres Molteni defeated the second-seeded Bopanna-Ebden duo 1-6 5-7. Early in the year, Bopanna and Ebden had won the Australian Open.

It will be intriguing to watch whether 44-year-old Bopanna decides to retire from the Davis Cup in January 2025 after having previously declared his retirement. Bopanna won the Australian Open in January 2025.

Intriguingly, Bopanna and Ebden will now face off in the mixed doubles competition, where his challenge with Indonesian partner Aldila Sutjiadi is still open. In the mixed doubles, Barbora Krejcikova of the Czech Republic and Ebden are ranked fourth.
