Rohit Sharma should've been in playing 11 says Kaif

After captain Rohit Sharma was "rested" for the fifth Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test between Australia and India at the Sydney Cricket Ground, former Indian batsman Mohammad Kaif is at odds with the team's administration and selectors. Jasprit Bumrah announced that Rohit would not be included in the playing XI during the toss prior to the commencement of play on Day 1.

Rohit Sharma's test scores have been consistently low. He only scored 31 runs in the three Test matches he played in the current series against Australia.

"Rohit Sharma cannot be dropped or rested like other captains. Rohit Sharma is a respected leader who built this squad, regardless of who discarded him in a pivotal Test match—Gautam Gambhir or the selectors," Kaif added.

"He has supported the children; six months ago, he helped India win the T20 World Cup. He made the nation incredibly happy. He is a leader. "You can't let him go," he continued.

Rohit Sharma reportedly played his final test match for India, and both head coach Gautam Gambhir and chairman of selector Ajit Agarkar have hinted that they are considering other candidates for test assignments in the future.
