Russo Brothers Keep Fans Guessing About X-Men & Deadpool in Avengers Secret Wars
Joe and Anthony Russo, the directors behind blockbuster Marvel films, have shared their thoughts on the upcoming Avengers movies—Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars—which will be filmed back-to-back in London.
Speaking at The Electric State premiere in Los Angeles, Joe Russo revealed that the production will be intense. “We’re shooting them fairly back-to-back. It’s a lot of work again, we may or may not survive, we’ll see,” he joked in an interview with Deadline.
He also hinted at the complexity of the storylines, saying, “We found a way into the story that we think is going to be challenging for audiences. It’s exciting for us, and it gets us out of bed to do it.”
When asked about potential appearances from X-Men characters or Deadpool, Joe remained tight-lipped. “Who knows? I don’t know who we’re gonna see. Anybody in the Marvel bag could show up in this movie,” he teased.
The Russo brothers previously directed Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, two of the highest-grossing films of all time. Their return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has excited fans, especially with Secret Wars, which is based on the 2015 comic storyline where multiple universes collide.
A major surprise in the upcoming films is the return of Robert Downey Jr., but not as Iron Man. Instead, he will reportedly play the villain Doctor Doom, marking a major shift in his MCU role. This unexpected casting has generated buzz, as Marvel continues to reshape its cinematic universe with new storylines and unexpected character developments.
Avengers: Doomsday is set to release in 2026, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027. Fans eagerly await more updates as production begins.
