Sadar Police Held Accused for Fraud During RTE 25% Admission Process

Nagpur, India:  Between April 20, 2024, at 10:00 AM and May 19, 2024, at 4:00 PM, the Sadar Police jurisdiction witnessed a significant fraud case during the Right to Education (RTE) 25% admission process for the 2023-24 academic year. The incident took place at Zilla Parishad Girls High School, Sadar, where the Group Education Officer reported that several parents had submitted fake income and residence proofs to secure admissions for their children.

Following a complaint by Group Education Officer Kavadu Rameshwarrao Durge (57), the Sadar Police Station registered a case under sections 420, 465, 468, 471, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code. During the investigation, three individuals were arrested: Prashant Gajanan Hedau (35) of Ayodhya Nagar, Rajesh Shivpal Buwade (39) of Kasturi Garden, and Raja Jamshed Sharif (33) of Anant Nagar, Gittikhadan, Nagpur.

Further investigation revealed that while Raja Jamshed Sharif was in custody on June 4, 2024, ₹7,80,000 was withdrawn from his Standard Chartered Bank account via ATM between June 4 and June 7, 2024. The police identified and apprehended Rohit alias Clement Eugene Pillay (32) of Kirad Layout, Mankapur, who confessed to withdrawing the money on Sharif's instructions. Pillay has been arrested, and further investigation is ongoing.

The successful operation was conducted under the guidance of Commissioner of Police, Nagpur City; Joint Commissioner of Police, Nagpur City; Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime); Additional Commissioner of Police (North Division); Deputy Commissioner of Police (Circle 2); and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Sadar Division). The team included PI Manish Thackeray, PHW Ravindra, Amol, and Assistant Police Officer Pramod Sanjay.
