Seminary Hills Lane Struggles with Rising Traffic Flow

Nagpur, India: Nagpur is a rapidly growing city that needs continuous infrastructure upgrades to meet the demands of its expanding population. While major roads are being improved, some important but less-recognized roads have not yet been upgraded. One such road is Gaidhane Marg, descending from Seminary Hills to Katol Road, passing near the office of the Geological Survey of India (GSI).
The road is commonly used by people living in crowded areas along Katol Road to reach government offices and schools on Seminary Hills. It also acts as a shortcut to the Civil Lines area, offering an alternate route to the main road that goes through Katol Naka and Japanese Garden Square.
Bikes, cars, autos, school vans, and heavy vehicles like trucks regularly use this stretch of road. In earlier times, the area along the road was a slum, providing ample space for the road. However, as time passed, the area developed, and the small houses were replaced by buildings, some of which now extend right up to the side of the road.
Rashid Sheikh, a local resident, mentioned that it's necessary to manage traffic on the road, particularly during peak hours.
"Many school vans and bikes travel through the road in the morning and evening, causing congestion in the lane. It should be regulated, especially during peak traffic hours," said Rashid Sheikh.
The traffic passing through the lane, particularly during peak hours in the morning and evening, leads to congestion. The buildings that extend to the road and the vehicles parked nearby create blockages, hindering the smooth flow of traffic.
To regulate traffic, some pillars have been installed near the GSI office, but they are not placed at the junction with Katol Road, allowing heavy traffic to enter the road.
The condition of Seminary Hills Road shows the need for better planning in infrastructure development. Solving traffic problems and ensuring these important but often ignored roads are safe is essential for the city's growth and the safety of its residents. The authorities need to act fast to reduce the current traffic issues and prevent the road from getting worse.
