Senior Citizen Cheated of ₹18.5 Lakh by Fake Tax Consultant in Nagpur

Nagpur, India: A 78-year-old man from Wardha was cheated of ₹18.5 lakh by a woman who claimed to be a tax consultant in Nagpur. The woman, identified as Mayuri Anil Madarkar, also known as Mayuri Ganpat Chithde (34), runs a tax consultancy from her home in Somalwada, Zenda Chowk.
Between April 2022 and June 2024, Mayuri told the victim, Mahadev Bhaurao Dandekar, that he had to pay ₹58.20 lakh in income tax. She said she could help reduce the amount and asked him to give her three signed cheques.
Later, she gave him fake documents showing the tax had been paid. But when Dandekar became suspicious, he checked with another Chartered Accountant and found that she had used the cheques to take ₹28.16 lakh from his bank account.
Although she returned part of the money, she did not return the remaining ₹18.5 lakh. Dandekar then filed a police complaint.
Sonegaon Police have registered a case under sections related to cheating, forgery, and criminal breach of trust. The investigation is ongoing.
