Sex Racket Threats Lead to Minor’s Suicide; Jharkhand Man Held

Nagpur, India: The Ramtek police have arrested a 35-year-old man from Jharkhand for allegedly blackmailing a minor and driving them to suicide. The accused, identified as Omprakash Prasad Dularchand Mahato, reportedly threatened to falsely implicate the victim in a sex racket while demanding ₹5,000.

The incident occurred on December 10, 2024, when the minor took their own life by hanging. Initially registered as an accidental death, the case took a turn when the victim's father filed a complaint on December 12. He alleged that the accused had been pressuring the victim over phone calls from two mobile numbers (9820617082 and 8434391741) and threatening public humiliation if the money was not paid.

Fearing defamation and unable to cope with the mental stress, the victim tragically ended their life. Based on the father’s complaint, a case was registered under IPC Sections 107, 308, and 305 for abetment of suicide.

Under the guidance of Nagpur Rural SP Harsh A. Poddar, the Ramtek police launched an investigation. Technical evidence traced the accused’s location to Hazaribagh, Jharkhand. A special team was dispatched and successfully arrested Mahato on December 22, 2024.

During interrogation, the accused admitted to his role in the blackmail but hinted at the possible involvement of others. He is currently in police custody until December 31, 2024, as further investigations are ongoing.

The Ramtek police have intensified efforts to uncover all individuals linked to the case. This swift action reflects the authorities' dedication to combating crime and ensuring justice for the victim’s family.
