Sharad Pawar Expels 11 NCP Leaders, Vows to Challenge Rebels in Supreme Court
Sharad Pawar, the prominent leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), took the decision to banish 11 party members on Thursday. Among the expelled individuals are Praful Patel, Sunit Tatkare, and nine leaders who recently took oath as ministers in the Shiv Sena-BJP Government. Additionally, Pawar indicated his intention to approach the Supreme Court to challenge those who defected from the NCP and joined the Shiv Sena-BJP alliance, expressing his determination to retain the party's identity.
The expulsion comes in response to the rebellion led by nine senior NCP members, led by Ajit Pawar, who claimed to have the support of the majority within the party. Ajit Pawar went as far as removing Sharad Pawar from the position of NCP Presidentship. Addressing the media after a meeting of the NCP in Delhi, Sharad Pawar announced the removal of the 11 leaders from the party, a resolution that was passed by the party members.
Sharad Pawar emphasized his resolve to safeguard the NCP and its symbol by pursuing legal recourse in the Supreme Court. Despite questions about his retirement, he affirmed that his age is inconsequential as long as he continues to work for the betterment of the party.
The expulsion of MPs Praful Patel and Sunil Tatkare occurred immediately after the nine rebel leaders, led by Ajit Pawar, were sworn in as ministers on Sunday. The formal resolution to oust the 11 leaders was passed during the party meeting held on Thursday, signifying a significant development in the ongoing internal conflict within the NCP.
