Sindhu's singular objective is to peak

Legendary Indian badminton player Prakash Padukone is taking in the "charm" of the Games Village like a novice. "I saw Carlos Alcaraz and Rafael Nadal on the first day we were able to meet," Padukone remarked. He is excited to eat dinner with more of these celebrities who are older than he is.

The 1983 bronze medallist from the World Championships joins PV Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medallist aiming for a third, in the Village as a member of her coaching team (Lakshya Sen trains at his academy in Bengaluru). Even while Agus Dwi Santoso continues to be Padukone's full-time coach, Padukone plays a larger tactical role on Team Sindhu.

While Sindhu's strokes gain more bite and diversity from the Indonesian, Padukone contributes by knowing when to use them through specific playing patterns.

Since partnering with Sindhu as a mentor last year, Padukone has accompanied her to a few competitions. At the time of the high-profile affiliation, Sindhu was having trouble returning to her previous level of play and self-assurance on the court. This year, there have been occasional flashes of it, but they have stayed isolated. Padukone yearned for additional time spent with Sindhu.
