Sitabuldi Police Arrest Accused in Extortion and Attempted Murder Case
Nagpur, India: The Sitabuldi Police arrested a suspect involved in a serious crime that was held near the Nagpur Railway Station on June 13, 2024. The arrest came after a successful police operation based on reliable information.
The incident happened around 5:30 PM when Saddam Vakil Ahmed, 33, was at his tea shop near Gate No. 2 of the railway station. Two men, Ammu (Umesh Manoj Paisadeli) and Rohit Thakur arrived on a moped and demanded money and free snacks from Saddam. They also used abusive language. When Saddam refused, they attacked him with a knife and tried to kill him before fleeing the scene.
The Sitabuldi Police filed a case under serious charges including attempted murder and extortion. While Ammu was caught earlier, Rohit Thakur was on the run until recently.
The police, acting on a tip-off, set up a trap and arrested Rohit Thakur, 24, who was staying at Khalasi Line, Mohannagar, Sadar, Nagpur. They also seized a moped worth ₹35,000 and a knife worth ₹225, totalling ₹35,225 in recovered items.
This operation was led by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone 2, and Additional Commissioner of Police, Sitabuldi, with help from Senior Police Inspector Asaram Chormale, Police Inspector Atul Mohankar, Assistant Police Inspector Vinod Tiwari, and other officers.
