Speedy Work for Ambazari Lake strengthening Ahead of Monsoon
Nagpur, India- On Wednesday, Divisional Commissioner Vijayalaxmi Bidari took strong action to prevent flood-related issues at Ambazari Lake during the upcoming monsoon season. Concerned about the potential for a repeat of last year's flood-like situations, Bidari directed all relevant departments to Fasten up the strengthening work at the lake before the onset of monsoon rains.
To ensure effective coordination and oversight, Bidari chaired a meeting of a committee at the Divisional Commissionerate Office. The committee, which convened for its sixth session, included officials such as Dr Abhijit Choudhary, Municipal Commissioner and Administrator; Dr Vipin Itankar, District Collector; P K Pawar, Chief Engineer from the Water Resource Department; Shweta Banerjee, Superintending Engineer; Pradeep Kulkarni, Deputy Commissioner; as well as representatives from the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board, Maha Metro, Public Works Department, and other relevant bodies.
Acknowledging the demands previously issued by the Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court, Bidari emphasized the urgency of completing the lake's strengthening before the monsoon. With the project currently in its second stage, efforts are focused on reinforcing the earthen dam. Bidari expressed confidence that this phase would be completed before the rainy season, ensuring the smooth flow of water from Ambazari Lake to Nag River.
Additionally, ongoing efforts to remove encroachments along both banks of Nag River are progressing steadily, with completion anticipated before the onset of monsoon rains. These combined efforts aim to mitigate flood risks and safeguard communities residing near Ambazari Lake and Nag River from potential disasters during the upcoming monsoon season.
