State Cabinet Approves ₹1,879 Crore Kanhan River Diversion Scheme for Nagpur
The Maharashtra State Cabinet has approved the Kanhan River Diversion Scheme with a budget of ₹1,879.213 crore. Proposed by Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, this scheme will provide irrigation to the tehsils of Saoner, Katol, Narkhed, and Kalmeshwar in Nagpur district, benefiting 32,285 acres of agricultural land. With a capacity of 3.25 TMC, 3.04 TMC will be utilized for irrigation, while 0.03 TMC is allocated for drinking water. Originally conceived in 2016, the project has now been given a boost for implementation.
Dangurli Weir Project and Other Irrigation Approvals
In addition to the Kanhan River project, the Cabinet approved the Dangurli high-level weir project in Gondia district, which will irrigate 5,861 hectares of land with an expenditure of ₹395.48 crore. The second phase of the Nanaji Deshmukh Krishi Sanjeevani Prakalp, initiated by Fadnavis, also received approval. Furthermore, revised estimates of ₹5,409.72 crore were sanctioned for the Guruvarya Kai Laxmanraoji Inamdar lift irrigation project in Satara district, which will irrigate 32,937 hectares.
Nagpur ITI Renamed After Santaji Jagnade Maharaj
The Cabinet decided to rename the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) in Nagpur after Sant Shri Santaji Jagnade Maharaj, following a proposal by Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
₹5,000 Subsidy for Construction Workers
The Cabinet also approved a one-time ₹5,000 subsidy for construction workers registered with the Construction Workers' Board. Around 25 lakh workers are expected to benefit from this decision.
