Straightening of Platforms 1, 2, and 3 at Nagpur Station to Ease Train Congestion

Nagpur, India: Nagpur railway station is set to straighten three curved platforms to improve train movement and increase station capacity. Platforms 1, 2, and 3 at the Itarsi end often cause delays as they are connected to the main line through a turnout. When a 26-coach train stops at these platforms, the engine or a coach blocks the main line, affecting the movement of other trains. Straightening these platforms will solve this problem and allow for the introduction of new train services from Nagpur.
The project proposal has been approved, and the work is expected to start within the next eight months. However, before starting this work, the redevelopment of Ajni and Godhani stations needs to be completed. Since the straightening work will require blockages at Nagpur station, trains that usually terminate at Nagpur may be shifted to Ajni or Godhani during the construction period.
Vinayak Garg, Divisional Railway Manager of Central Railway, mentioned that redevelopment work at Godhani is likely to be completed by September, while work at Ajni is progressing well. Once these two projects are finished, the straightening work at Nagpur station will begin.
