Iyer barely made a mistake as captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders during their 2024 IPL winning streak, but his role as the pack leader was overshadowed by Gautam Gambhir, Chandrakant Pandit, and Abhishek Nayar in the dugout.
But Iyer has demonstrated that leadership is more than just following orders from the dugout by leading Mumbai to the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) championship match against Madhya Pradesh on Sunday.
Although it is a demanding sport, the SMAT national championship lacks worldwide talent. Iyer has once again demonstrated his abilities as a capable T20 skipper who is knowledgeable about the demands of the contemporary game and a solid man manager by assisting Mumbai in winning the trophy.
