Teacher Arrested for Sexual Harassment Under POCSO Act at Sadar School
Nagpur, India: Sadar Police have arrested a 47-year-old teacher from a well-known English medium school in Sadar on charges of sexually harassing female students. The teacher, whose name has not been disclosed, faces multiple charges including engaging in obscene acts, voluntarily causing hurt, and assaulting the girls with the intent to outrage their modesty.
The arrest follows several complaints lodged by students over the past few days, alleging inappropriate behavior by the teacher. The school’s management responded by forming a three-member inquiry committee to investigate the claims. The committee found the teacher guilty of misconduct and submitted its findings to the principal.
Upon receiving the report, the principal promptly filed a First Information Report (FIR) with the Sadar Police. In response, the police have registered a case under Sections 296 (Obscene acts), 74 (Assault or use of criminal force to outrage modesty), 115(2) [voluntarily causing hurt], and 352 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita. Additional charges under Section 12 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act have also been framed.
The accused teacher has been taken into custody, and the investigation is ongoing.
