Teenager Dies by Suicide for Scolding Over Mobile Phone Use in Nagpur
Nagpur, India: A 15-year-old girl in Nagpur died by suicide after being scolded for playing too many games on her family's mobile phone. The incident happened in the Hudkeshwar area. The girl, Purna Nilesh Dhone, was a tenth-grade student at Somalwar High School and the eldest daughter of Nilesh Dhone, who works in the Crime Branch.
Purna used her family's mobile phone to play online games and was also active on social media. Her parents were worried about her addiction and had advised her to stop playing games. They had also stopped giving her the phone, which made Purna upset.
As her school exams approached, Purna’s mother scolded her for not focusing on her studies, and Purna’s behaviour changed. Concerned about her mental state, her parents planned to see a psychologist the following Monday. However, on the night of August 12, after dinner, Purna was studying in the living room. Later, around 1:30 AM, her mother found her hanging in her room. Despite rushing her to a private hospital, she was pronounced dead.
The Dhone family is deeply shocked by their daughter's death. This tragedy has raised concerns among parents in the city about mobile phone addiction. The Hudkeshwar police have filed a case of accidental death and are investigating further.
