Tension in Amravati After EVM Allegedly Transported on Motorcycle

Vidarbha, Amravati, India: Tension increased in the Gopal Nagar area of Amravati city after polling officials were accused of transporting an Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) on a motorcycle.

Some locals intercepted the polling staff involved, while independent candidates Priti Band and Tushar Bhartiya, accompanied by their supporters, arrived at the polling station, accusing the staff of misconduct.

The Rajiv Gandhi Higher Primary School in Gopal Nagar was one of the polling stations for the Badnera constituency. After voting ended, it was reported that the polling staff used a motorcycle to transport the EVM to a vehicle parked some distance away.

Local residents protested, claiming that the act was illegal, and confronted the polling staff member carrying the EVM. During the argument, the polling staff member fled the scene.

As rumors of an EVM being hijacked spread throughout the city, a large crowd gathered at the location.

Independent candidates Tushar Bhartiya and Priti Band arrived at the scene, raised their objections, and called for accountability. The incident heightened tensions, prompting the deployment of police forces to maintain law and order.

Subsequently, the Returning Officer for the Badnera constituency arrived at the scene to handle the situation.

The EVM was inspected in the presence of Priti Band, Tushar Bhartiya, and others. However, despite the verification, a furious crowd continued to gather at the location, and chaos persisted as this report was being written.
