Nagpur, India: A tense atmosphere gripped the Lakadganj area on Monday afternoon after a bag containing suspected beef was discovered near the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The incident, which occurred around 3 p.m., triggered protests by locals and members of Bajrang Dal, demanding immediate action.

Eyewitnesses reported that an unidentified individual on a motorcycle was seen discarding the bag near the statue. A resident who inspected the bag claimed it contained beef. Soon after, rumours spread that the act was an attempt to create unrest in the area.

The news quickly reached the community, prompting a large gathering of residents and activists outside the Lakadganj Police Station. Protesters raised slogans and pressed for the swift arrest of the culprit.

In response, the police assured them that the matter was being taken seriously. A case has been registered against the unknown individual, and officers are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the area to identify the suspect. The suspected beef has been sent to a forensic lab for verification.

Protesters criticized Senior Police Inspector Hemant Chandewar for allegedly responding slowly to the situation. Despite being informed early, they claimed he failed to act promptly, leading to escalating tensions. Bajrang Dal members and residents staged a protest at the police station, demanding action against the officer for negligence.

Police have urged the public to remain calm and avoid spreading rumours that could further disrupt peace. Investigations are ongoing, and authorities are committed to resolving the matter swiftly while maintaining law and order.
