The East Bengal derby in Mohun Bagan was moved to Guwahati

Mohun Bagan Super Giants announced on Wednesday that they will host the Indian Super League (ISL) Kolkata derby versus East Bengal in Guwahati on Saturday, ending weeks of speculation.

The game, which was originally scheduled for Saturday in Kolkata, had to be moved due to insufficient security coverage. For the second time this season, the police prevented a Mohun Bagan vs. East Bengal match from taking place at Salt Lake Stadium.

According to a club official, Mohun Bagan looked at Guwahati, Delhi, and Jamshedpur as potential locations. According to the official, it was convenient to stage the derby in Guwahati the next day because the ISL broadcast crew will be there on Friday when Northeast United hosts Punjab FC.

Unverified rumors circulated that the derby might be postponed or moved when Mohun Bagan played their final home game of 2024 against the Kerala Blasters on December 14.

Because East Bengal plays the double-leg AFC Challenge League quarterfinal on March 5 and 12, it was challenging for Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL), the organization that oversees the ISL, to postpone the game.
