Thunderbolts and X-Men Characters Confirmed for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’
Los Angeles: Marvel Studios has announced the cast for Avengers: Doomsday, bringing together familiar faces from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) along with stars from the X-Men and Fantastic Four franchises.
MCU Stars Return
Robert Downey Jr. is making a surprise return to the MCU, but this time as the villain Doctor Doom. Joining him are Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Anthony Mackie (Captain America), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Letitia Wright (Black Panther), Simu Liu (Shang-Chi), Danny Ramirez (The Falcon), and Winston Duke (M’Baku).
X-Men and Fantastic Four Join the Team
Big names from the X-Men universe will also be part of Doomsday, including Patrick Stewart (Professor X), Ian McKellen (Magneto), James Marsden (Cyclops), and Rebecca Romijn (Mystique). Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler) and Kelsey Grammer (Beast) will also return, along with Channing Tatum, who is finally making his Marvel debut after years of rumours about playing Gambit.
The new Fantastic Four cast will also appear in the movie, featuring Pedro Pascal (Mr. Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby (The Invisible Woman), Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Thing), and Joseph Quinn (The Human Torch).
Thunderbolts Cast Included
Actors from the upcoming Thunderbolts movie were also part of the reveal. This includes Sebastian Stan (The Winter Soldier), Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova), Wyatt Russell (U.S. Agent), David Harbour (Red Guardian), Hannah John-Kamen (Ghost), and Lewis Pullman, whose character is currently known as Bob.
Surprise Entry and More to Come
A surprise addition was Tenoch Huerta Mejía, who played Namor in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. His return was uncertain due to allegations in 2023, but his appearance at the casting event suggests that he is back on good terms with Marvel.
More Announcements Expected
Marvel revealed 26 actors during the event, but sources say more names are yet to be announced. The cast reveal was simple but exciting, with each actor’s name appearing on a director’s chair accompanied by music from their respective films. The reveal ended with a dramatic moment as Robert Downey Jr. was shown in a suit and tie, giving a playful “shhh” to the camera.
Release Dates Confirmed
Avengers: Doomsday is set to release on May 1, 2026, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars on May 7, 2027. The Russo Brothers, who directed Infinity War and Endgame, are returning to helm these films. They confirmed they are using special “baseball cards” to keep track of the large number of characters in the movies.
