Tigress' Path Blocked by Tourist Vehicles, HC Takes Action
Nagpur , Maharashtra: High Court Takes Action After Tourist Vehicles Block Tigress’ Path in Nagpur Sanctuary Forest Officials Ordered to Respond
The Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court has stepped in after an incident where tourist vehicles blocked a tigress and her cubs in the Umred-Paoni-Karhandla Sanctuary. The event took place on December 31, when a tigress (F2) and her five cubs were trapped between two groups of tourist vehicles on the Gothangaon Safari Road in the sanctuary's Kuhi forest area. This caused stress to the animals and raised concerns over irresponsible tourism affecting wildlife.
Justice Nitin Sambre and Justice Vrushali Joshi have directed the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) to submit a detailed response within two days. The court noted the rise in such incidents and decided to take action by filing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL). The next hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, where an amicus curiae will also be appointed to assist with the case.
This case brings attention to the need for responsible tourism in wildlife sanctuaries to protect endangered species like tigers.
