Two AIIMS Students Booked for Ragging by Sonegaon Police
Nagpur, India: Sonegaon Police have booked two students from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on charges of ragging. The accused, Divyanshu Rathod and Aman Ahlawat, both from the 2021 BSc Medical Laboratory Technology batch, were named in a complaint filed by fellow student Ansh Kumar.
The incident happened on September 21 around 9:30 pm, Ansh Kumar was taken to his room in Keshav Hostel. There, he was aggressively questioned and threatened by Rathod and Ahlawat. He cried and asked the help of nearby students, to step in.
Following the incident, Ansh reported the matter to AIIMS' Anti-Ragging Committee on September 23. Committee member Sachin Ramesh Choudhary conducted an investigation and confirmed the ragging. Based on his findings, Choudhary lodged a formal complaint with Sonegaon Police.
The police have registered a case against the two students under the Maharashtra Prohibition of Ragging Act, 1999, and relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. Authorities have launched an inquiry and stated that appropriate action will follow.
Second Ragging Case in Two Years
This is Nagpur's second reported ragging case in the last two years. In 2022, six interns from Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H) were suspended after a first-year MBBS student submitted video evidence of ragging to the Central Anti-Ragging Committee.
