Two Arrested in Old Kamptee for Transporting Cattle for Illegal Slaughter
Kamptee, Nagpur: In a significant operation, the Old Kamptee police intercepted two Tata S vehicles suspected of transporting cattle for illegal slaughter. The vehicles, with registration numbers MH 36 AE 3965 and MH 36 AE 3913, were halted near Kadarzenda Masjid based on credible information received during a routine patrol.
Upon inspection, police discovered seven live cattle, valued at approximately ₹1,40,000, being transported in a manner deemed cruel and illegal. The cattle were confined and were being moved for unlawful slaughter.
The drivers of the vehicles, Atul Ganesh Kawade, 28, from Subhash Ward, Mohadi, and Chandrashekhar Maroti Hedau, 38, from Tilak Ward, Mohadi, were arrested. The authorities seized both vehicles and the cattle, with the total value of the recovered goods estimated at ₹11,40,000. The rescued cattle were subsequently sent to the Gaurakshan Committee in Nagpur for safekeeping.
Following a complaint lodged by Police Inspector Vivek Dorasittwar, a case has been filed against the suspects under Sections 5 and 9 of the Maharashtra Animal Preservation Act, 1995, and Section 11(1)(d) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960. The investigation into the matter continues.
