Two Deaths, More Cases: GBS Surge Raises Concerns at GMCH

Nagpur, India: A 7-year-old girl from Balaghat, Madhya Pradesh, has been diagnosed with Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) and is now in the intensive care unit (ICU) at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). She was admitted on Saturday with breathing problems, and doctors confirmed GBS on Sunday. As her condition got worse, she was put on a ventilator.

In the last month, GMCH has seen 10 GBS cases, with five patients from Nagpur. Between January 16 and February 15, two patients died, four recovered and were sent home, and one left the hospital on their own. Three patients are still getting treatment.

Of the five patients currently being treated, three are from other districts, and two are from Madhya Pradesh. Among the 10 cases, four are children. The rest are between 19 and 48 years old, except for one 75-year-old patient. Sadly, an eight-year-old boy and a 45-year-old man lost their lives to the disease.

Doctors are urging people to be alert and get early medical help to improve chances of recovery. Investigations are ongoing to find out why cases are rising.
