Two Students Assigned Same Aadhaar Number, Schools Reject Records

Nagpur, India: Two students in Nagpur are facing major problems because they have been given the same Aadhaar number. Aadhaar is an important identity document needed for school admissions, bank accounts, and government schemes. However, Devansh Vinesh Patil from Wardhaman Nagar and Vansh Narayan Chavan from Pardi, both students, have been struggling for five years due to this mistake.

Devansh’s mother has visited the Aadhaar update centre in Mankapur many times to correct the error, but new mistakes keep appearing. Sometimes, Vansh’s photo is printed on Devansh’s Aadhaar, and at other times, their birth dates or addresses are swapped. Even Aadhaar officials have not been able to fix the issue.

Because of this, their Aadhaar numbers cannot be linked to their school records, causing trouble in their education. Devansh is in fourth grade, while Vansh is in tenth grade, and both of their schools keep asking for a correct Aadhaar card.

The parents say they have also faced fraud at the Aadhaar centre, where some people asked for ₹2,000, promising to fix the issue in 15 days. Officials have told them they might need to go to Bengaluru for a solution, leaving them frustrated and helpless.

Education expert Anil Shivankar called this a serious issue and suggested that the education department and the National Informatics Centre (NIC) should step in to resolve it. He said that until the issue is fixed, the schools should still allow the students to continue their education.

The families are now urging the authorities to take quick action to correct this Aadhaar mix-up.
