Umarkhed City Shuts Down Amid Protests Over Shivaji Maharaj Statue Relocation

Yavatmal, Maharashtra- Umarkhed city came to a standstill as residents and activists staged a powerful protest against the relocation of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj statue. The Putala Sangharsh Samiti, alongside members of the Maratha Mawla Sanghagan, spearheaded the demonstration, demanding the statue's installation at its original planned site.

The protest led to a complete shutdown of Umarkhed. Hundreds of activists gathered in front of the municipal office, staging a demonstration despite heavy rain. City chief Mahesh Jamnor attempted to negotiate with the protestors multiple times, but no resolution was reached.

As tensions escalated, Chief Magistrate Jamnor withdrew from the protest site. During the demonstration, there were several clashes between the protestors and the police.

Ultimately, Sub-Divisional Police Officer Hanumant Gaikwad intervened, holding discussions with the protestors and Chief Magistrate Jamnor. Gaikwad promised to install the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj statue at the planned location within a month. Following this assurance, the protestors agreed to withdraw their demonstration.
