Unidentified Man Stabbed to Death in Auto-Rickshaw; Accused Robbed and Fled
Nagpur, India: In a shocking crime in Dhantoli, three armed men killed a man, robbed him and fled the scene. Despite 24 hours of investigation, the police are yet to identify the culprits or the victim, raising serious concerns about public safety.
The victim, believed to be in his 40s, was found with a Pune Municipal Transport bus ticket, suggesting he may have travelled from Pune to Nagpur for work. Described as approximately 5.5 feet tall, he was wearing a yellow T-shirt and a blue checked shirt at the time of the incident.
The victim was walking near Munje Square when an auto-rickshaw stopped. He took the auto but deboarded shortly after. He resumed walking but was followed by the same auto-rickshaw and boarded it again. CCTV footage revealed two men trailing him as he moved through Munje Square. The auto was later seen heading towards Kurvez New Model School in Sitabuldi via Anand Talkies.
The crime unfolded near Loharkar Hotel, where the robbers attempted to snatch the man’s bag. When he resisted, one of the men in the backseat stabbed him in the chest and pushed him out of the moving vehicle. The victim fell onto the road and, despite trying to walk a few steps, collapsed due to severe injuries.
A passerby alerted the Dhantoli police, but the man had succumbed to his injuries before help arrived. The body was sent for postmortem, and police prepared a panchnama.
Initial investigations suggest robbery as the motive, as the victim’s bag and belongings were missing. The registration number of the auto-rickshaw remains unclear, complicating the search for the suspects. Police are examining CCTV footage from the area to identify the vehicle and those involved.
Authorities urge anyone with information about the victim or suspects to contact Dhantoli Police Station. This incident underscores growing safety concerns for ordinary citizens and highlights the boldness of criminal activities in the city. Further investigations are underway.
