Heavy Rainfall with Gusty Winds to Continue in Vidarbha Till 12 April

Nagpur, India: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had predicted unseasonal rain, and it arrived a day early. After a very hot day, clouds gathered in the evening and rain started falling in Nagpur, bringing relief from the heat.

The city received 2 mm of rain on Wednesday. Many parts of Nagpur district also saw rainfall. According to the IMD, this cloudy and rainy weather may continue for the next three to four days.

The IMD had also warned of a heatwave in Vidarbha. On Wednesday, the temperature in Nagpur reached 40.5°C. Even though it was slightly less than expected, people still felt the intense heat during the day. By evening, the sky turned cloudy and rain with strong winds began around 5 pm.

Other cities like Bhandara and Gondia also had cloudy skies. Temperatures dropped below 40°C in these areas. But Chandrapur remained hot at 42.2°C. Akola was even hotter at 43.7°C, while Amravati recorded 42°C. Experts say temperatures will likely drop over the next few days.

The change in weather is due to a low-pressure area and cyclonic winds forming over the Bay of Bengal. A new weather system from Rajasthan has moved towards Vidarbha, causing the unseasonal rain.

In rural areas, the weather also changed suddenly on Wednesday afternoon. Clouds covered the sky and strong winds blew. Some areas saw heavy rain, while others had light drizzles. This gave people relief from the heat, but it worried farmers and traders who depend on the summer season for business. Heavy rain and hail were reported in Deolapar, stormy showers in Hingna, and light rain in Kamptee. In Deolapar, rain with strong winds lasted about 20 minutes.

Flights Diverted Due to Storm

Due to heavy rain, lightning and thunderstorms in Nagpur on Wednesday evening, four flights were diverted to Raipur. The affected IndiGo flights were from Indore, Delhi, Bengaluru, and Mumbai. Passengers had to face inconvenience, and airport officials did not give any more details about the diversions.

People are advised to keep an eye on weather updates as this rainy spell continues.
