Vidarbha Women Secure First Win in Senior Women's T20 Trophy
In a remarkable performance at KIIT Cricket Stadium, Bhubaneshwar, Vidarbha Women's cricket team secured their first win in the Senior Women's T20 Trophy, defeating Mizoram by a substantial 87-run margin on Thursday.
Vidarbha put on a commendable display, setting a target of 171 runs for Mizoram while losing six wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Their commanding performance in the field then restricted the opponents to a mere 84 runs while losing eight wickets.
Opting to bat first, Vidarbha was captained by Disha Kasat, who showcased a stellar performance, scoring 89 runs from 52 balls. Her innings included 11 boundaries and 3 sixes, and she notably led from the front. Riddhi contributed 27 runs off 25 balls, Shivani Dhare, and Ankita Bhongade both added 15 runs each, providing valuable contributions.
In pursuit of Vidarbha's formidable total, Mizoram's skipper and opener, Shweta, stood out by scoring 48 runs from 51 balls. Unfortunately, her efforts weren't enough to change the game's course, as M Singson was the only other player to reach double digits, with 13 runs.
Vidarbha's bowlers played a pivotal role in their victory. Kanchan Nagwani secured three wickets for 10 runs, Nupur Kohale took two wickets for 26 runs, Komal Zanzad claimed one wicket for 16 runs, and Riddhi captured one wicket for 15 runs.
In their earlier matches in the tournament, Vidarbha faced losses against Mumbai, Baroda, and Maharashtra. Despite this, their victory against Mizoram has rekindled their prospects in the Senior Women's T20 Trophy. Their upcoming fixture will be against Delhi on Saturday.
